A price survey of holiday items bought at popular holiday destinations shows that consumers can save money by buying holiday necessities abroad, instead of stocking up before they leave the UK. The study reveals that both Nivea Sun Tan Lotion and OFF! insect repellent are cheaper when purchased abroad.*
To help British consumers shop around for the best price, the price comparison website PriceRunner (www.pricerunner.co.uk) studied prices for the following products in ten popular holiday destinations:
• Nivea Sun Tan Lotion 200ml, factor 15
• Paracetamol named brands including Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, Bayer regular strength, packet of 12
• OFF! Deep Woods insect repellent 6oz pump/spray with 25% DEET
• 20 Marlborough Lights
• Tetley Tea bags, English Breakfast tea, pack of 20
• Nescafe Original Dark Roast instant coffee 200grams
• Ray Ban Aviator Outdoorsman sunglasses

Cheap Sunny Thailand – save money while sunning on the beach.
Thailand is the cheapest holiday destination for lots of things but consumers should be aware of fake copies of named brand items. Holiday makers can save over £5.00 for every bottle of Nivea Sun Tan Lotion as the average price is the equivalent of £3.56 compared to £8.59 in the UK.
Don’t bring the tea bags to Dubai, but coffee lovers should bring their own.
Dubai is the cheapest country for English tea bags but Nescafe instant coffee is more expensive than in the UK. English tea bags can be bought a little cheaper in Dubai where consumers pay the equivalent of 59 pence compared to 75 pence in the UK. Nivea Sun Tan Lotion costs only £4.33 in Dubai compared to £8.59 in the UK.
Don’t worry about too much Ouzo in Greece because the Paracetamol is cheap.
Brits visiting Greece and trying too much of the local delicacies need not to worry too much about the Ouzo in Greece because it is the cheapest country to buy Paracetamol. A packet of 12 Paracetamol costs only 33 pence in Greece compared to £1.51 in the UK.
Bring your own coffee if you go to France.
Visitors to France can save money by bringing tea and coffee from the UK. The average price of Nescafe instant coffee in the UK is £2.43 but in France consumers will be charged £3.74.
Get your instant coffee in Spain but bring tea to Cyprus in Croatia.
Nescafe instant coffee is cheapest in Spain but tea, Paracetamol and the Da Vinci Code pocket book are all more expensive in Spain, Cyprus and Croatia. Nescafe instant coffee costs the equivalent of £1.64 in Spain compared to £2.43 in the UK. In Croatia, English tea costs the equivalent of £2.25 compared to £1.01 in Cyprus and 75 pence in the UK.
Cheap protection from the rays in the Dominican Republic
You can protect yourself from the rays in the Dominican Republic and save yourself £2.99 for every bottle of Nivea Sun Tan Lotion.
Don’t worry about the mosquitoes in Turkey and Italy
Don’t worry about mosquito bites when you’re in Turkey and Italy because OFF! Deep Woods insect repellent is cheaper in both countries. In Turkey, OFF! insect repellent costs the equivalent of just £1.78 compared to £4.71 in Italy and £5.99 in the UK.

Prices for the products were collected during 23 and 27 June 2005. Where possible three prices were collected for each product and the mean average has been used as the country’s price for the products. Prices, in most cases were collected from major supermarkets, chains to ensure that they are as closely representative of each country’s typical prices as possible. The exchange rates are from the Eruopean Central Bank, June 27th, 2005.
